WiFi Tips

These tips are designed to help you get the most out of your WiFi router. They are only intended as a guide so please seek professional advice if you feel that you have a problem with your WiFi router.

Improving your WiFi connection

  • Try placing your router near the center of the house or on your top floor.
  • Always place it off the floor. Try wall mounting it or on a high shelf.
  • Place it as far as possible from your neighbor's WiFi router to minimize interference. Also try a different WiFi channel from them.
  • Keep it away from microwaves and cordless phones, which operate on the same 2.4Ghz frequency.
  • Try to keep it away from power cords, baby monitors, computer wires and halogen lamps. These can all interfere with radio reception.
  • If you're still having problems getting a strong signal ask us about further options like Repeaters or Wireless Bridges.

Wifi Security

  • Go to your routers admin page and uncheck "Enable SSID Broadcast". You will still be able to access your network but it won't be discoverable if someone is looking at a list of available networks.
  • Always make sure that your network is password protected. It might seem easier to have an open network if you have a lot of devices but anyone wandering close to your home can piggyback off your Internet connection.
  • Change from WEP to WPA/WPA2. WEP is a lot less secure than WPA/WPA2 so consider changing it on your router's admin area to beef up your security.

Tooway 10

Tooway 10 is a satellite broadband service for occasional users.

The cheapest Tooway product to offer a full 22 Mb download, 6 Mb upload, this is a great package for the price.

The 10 GB data allowance will suit a couple or family who are occasional users, and who don't download much music or video and need a fast broadband connection mainly for browsing and email.

You can also buy Volume Boosters (1, 10, 50 or 100 GB) at any time if you occasionally need more data.

Tooway 25

Tooway 25 is a service for regular internet users. The 25 GB data allowance will suit a couple or family who are daily users, but who don't download much music or video and need a fast broadband connection mainly for browsing and email, and family connectivity to smart phones or tablet computers.

Tooway 25 includes UNLIMITED data off-peak (0.00 am [midnight] to 6.00 am local time) great for scheduling big software upgrades or downloading video.

Tooway Extra

Tooway Extra is a satellite broadband service for very regular users and offers uncapped email and browsing.

Video, streamed content (like audio) or very large file transfers of 10 MB or over (including email attachments) are prioritised up to overall monthly usage of 35 GB, and subject to traffic management on usage between 35 GB and 100 GB, particularly during the peak hours of between 5.00 pm and midnight. Above 100 GB, only email and internet browsing traffic is prioritised.

Tooway Extra customers are not able to buy online Volume Booster's like Tooway 2, 10 and 25 Customers. So on the Tooway Extra tariff, once your 100 GB per month data allowance is consumed, your service will be throttled to browsing and email only (no streaming or video) until your next month reset date.

However, Tooway Extra does include UNLIMITED data off-peak (0.00 am [midnight] to 6.00 am local time) great for scheduling big software upgrades or downloading video.

Tooway Extra is not suitable for commercial internet connectivity or for supporting large numbers of heavy users for instance in an internet cafe. Customers detected sharing a Tooway Extra service for profit maybe throttled or have their account suspended.
